Tile
Tile continues to develop in the floor covering industry for many reasons. It is great for heavy foot traffic and wet areas. It is also easy to care for and there are numerous patterns and geometric layout possibilities. At Wall To Wall, we carry a large array of ceramic, porcelain and natural stones.
Although porcelain is harder than ceramic there is a misconception that all porcelain has the same color throughout; meaning if chipped, it would not be noticeable. This is true only with “fully body” porcelains. Most porcelain is ceramic glazed over a porcelain body. Unlike ceramic, porcelain is “frost proof.” It is made of very fine sand and fired at a very high temperature to be closer to a “glass” rather than a clay fired product. Full body porcelains can be polished like stone so the edges can accommodate certain transitions.
Natural stone is the most unique of all. Millions of years of geological change deep in the earth’s crust results in a wide variety of vibrant colors and characteristics that is not affected by fashion or perishable over a period of time.
